History of the Slasher Film Part1 of 5

A more than useful series on the history of the slasher film, produced by the film critic and journalist, Mar Kermode. Absolutely required viewing...the other four parts to follow...

'The American Nightmare'

Please find the first part of the very useful documentary regarding American horror films from 1968 to the mid-1980s...a section of John Carpenter's Halloween will appear soon...

"Oh God! Mother! Blood!"

Another chance to see one of the most famous scenes in film history...the 'Shower Scene' from Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 horror masterpiece Psycho.

Notice the montage editing and how the use of music adds to the 'meaning' of the sequence (more on music in the next session after the half term break).

Opening sequence...

Fade up from black.....

This blog has been created as an additional resource to the Film Studies taught lessons, particularly my Tuesday morning session.

I shall update on a regular basis issues which I think will benefit you with regards to your sequence analysis coursework and the exam-based modules.

Feel free to add your own comments (please keep them constructive, relevant and on-topic whereever possible).

I have no idea how this is going to work, seeing as it is my first course-related blog, but I think I have just the students to make it a success!

I shall link this page to the Facebook group, as it will allow me to post useful links and advice where needed.
